Privacy Policy — The Contractor Last updated: 15 June 2026 · Effective date: 15 June 2026 The Contractor (the “App”) is a field-service management app developed by The DB Doctor (“we”, “us”, “our”), based in Hong Kong SAR. This privacy policy describes how the App handles information. We have written it in plain language because we think a privacy policy should be readable.

The short version

We do not collect, transmit, sell, or share any personal data. All your data lives on your device, in your own private iCloud, or both. The App contains no analytics, advertising SDKs, crash reporters, or third-party tracking of any kind. You can use every feature of the App without an internet connection.

  1. What data the App stores

The App stores the data you enter while using it — customers, jobs, visits, photos, signatures, invoices, inventory items, time-clock records, settings, and similar field-service records.

This data is stored in two places, both under your control:

On the device itself, in the App’s private sandbox. No other app on your device can read it. In your private iCloud (CloudKit) container, but only if you opt in to iCloud sync in the App’s settings. Your iCloud container is controlled by your Apple ID and is governed by Apple’s privacy terms. We have no access to it and cannot read its contents. If you do not enable iCloud sync, no data leaves your device at all.

  1. What data we collect

None. We operate no servers that receive data from the App. We do not run analytics, telemetry, advertising, crash reporting, or any third-party tracking SDK inside the App. We have no way to identify you, your customers, your jobs, or your usage patterns, and we cannot read your data even if we wanted to.

  1. Camera and photo library

The App requests permission to use the camera and your photo library so you can attach photos to job records (for example: equipment nameplates, completed installations, fault images, before-and-after shots). These photos are stored alongside the job record on your device and, if iCloud sync is enabled, in your private iCloud container.

The App does not upload photos to any server we operate. The App does not access your photo library except when you tap an explicit “add photo” or “take photo” action.

  1. iCloud sync

If you choose to enable iCloud sync in the App’s settings, your job data is synchronised between your iPhone, iPad, and Mac through Apple’s CloudKit service using your Apple ID. This is the same mechanism Apple’s own apps (Notes, Reminders, Photos) use.

Sync is opt-in and off by default. Sync uses your private CloudKit container, not a public or shared one. Only devices signed into your Apple ID can access it. We do not have access to your CloudKit container and cannot retrieve, modify, or delete its contents. Apple’s handling of CloudKit data is governed by their Privacy Policy. You can disable iCloud sync at any time from the App’s Settings → Sync screen. You can also remove the App’s data from iCloud entirely through iOS Settings → [Your Name] → iCloud → Manage Storage.

  1. Export, share, and backup files

The App lets you export individual jobs or entire backups as files (extensions: .contractorjob, .contractorjobs, .hvacjob, .hvacjobs, .hvacstore). These files are written to your device’s file system and shared only when you explicitly use the iOS share sheet (AirDrop, Mail, Messages, Files, etc.). The destination of those files is entirely under your control.

We never receive copies of these files.

  1. PDF work orders

The App generates PDF work orders from your job data. These PDFs are created entirely on your device. When you email or share a PDF, your device’s email client or share sheet handles delivery — the App does not route PDFs through any server we operate.

  1. Children’s privacy

The App is intended for use by tradespeople and small businesses. It is not directed at children under 13. We do not knowingly collect any information about children.

  1. Data retention and deletion

Because we do not collect or store your data on our servers, there is nothing for us to retain or delete on your behalf.

To delete data from your device, delete the App or remove individual records from within the App. To delete data from iCloud, see Section 4 above.

  1. Third-party services

The App does not integrate with any third-party advertising, analytics, attribution, or marketing service. The only external service the App can use is Apple’s iCloud / CloudKit, and only when you explicitly enable it.

  1. Your rights

Even though we do not collect personal data, the following rights apply to data you store with the App:

Access: all of your data is visible inside the App at any time. Portability: you can export your data using the App’s built-in backup and per-job export features. Erasure: delete records inside the App, or uninstall the App and remove its iCloud data via iOS Settings. If you have a question about your data, contact us at the email below.

  1. Changes to this policy

If we ever change this policy, the updated text will be posted at this URL with a revised “Last updated” date at the top.
